Instead of hiring professional content creators, we harness the creative energy of our online communities. We launch one new community per month and our success rate is over 90%. With each community, we learn more about what works, and what doesn’t – it’s a process of never-ending improvement.
Here’s what we do.
Historically, only trained professionals had the tools to create content. These tools were expensive and difficult-to-use – think of cameras 50 years ago. We build content-creation tools (“builders”) that are free and easy to use, so anybody can create fun and engaging content.
When a user creates a great piece of content, they want to spread it around. If it’s good enough, we publish it on the homepage of one of our high-traffic websites.
We’re passionate about delivering a superior, data-driven user experience. We believe in quality over quantity – our users create over 5,000 pieces of content per day but only the best content is published. How do we decide what to publish? We don’t. Our users do, using our algorithmic crowdvoting system – after a piece of content is submitted, we ask a random sampling of our audience to vote on it. If it scores high enough, we promote it to the homepage.

OMG Facts’ online video show has over 500,000 subscribers and receives as many viewers as some cable television programs. The website was launched in February 2010 and is followed by 5 million people on Twitter and 300,000 on Facebook.
Gives Me Hope is where people share with the world their most hopeful, uplifting moments – one-paragraph stories of amazing friends, true love, and random acts of kindness. It’s Chicken Soup for the Soul – the 21st Century, Twitter-style version. The website has received media attention from CNN, Esquire, The Los Angeles Times, and more. A book, GivesMeHope: The 127 Most Inspiring Bite-Sized Stories was published in November 2010. It has over 250,000 followers on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. GivesMeHope was launched in June 2009.
